Exam leak hunt targets school chief

Exam leak hunt targets school chief

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) yesterday raided the luxury home of a school director suspected of leaking answers for an assistant-teacher recruitment examination earlier this year.

Tanin Prempree, director of the DSI's corruption prevention and suppression centre, yesterday led a team of investigators to search the house of Sema-uppatham School director Amporn Thawannakul in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Mr Amporn is also a member of the teachers and educational personnel committee under the Nakhon Ratchasima Primary Educational Service Area 2.

The raid follows initial findings by the DSI that the house, in the Home Garden Ville Johor housing estate in Muang district, was where answers for the assistant-teacher recruitment exam were sold to several applicants.

The leaking of the papers and answers caused damage to the Office of the Basic Education Commission, which organised the exams, and other applicants who were not involved in the cheating, Mr Tanin said.

The exam was held on Jan 13 to recruit 2,000 assistant teachers nationwide.

The DSI seized evidence, including bank accounts, a list of people involved in the suspected leaking of the exam answers and a computerised database related to the exam.

Mr Tanin said the investigation team had obtained clear evidence that answers had been sold to applicants from Mr Amporn's home.

Applicant Suchao Yatheelo, who obtained an unusually high score in the examination, is suspected of buying answers from Mr Amporn at the house on Jan 12. Mr Suchao is now working as an assistant teacher at Kongrotrajsamakkhi School in Nakhon Ratchasima.

There were unusual money transfers worth about 8 million baht into five bank accounts before and after the exam, Mr Tanin said. The two men have been summonsed to testify before DSI investigators on Wednesday.
