Police go after southern arsonists

PATTANI – Police are checking all hospitals and health stations in a search for injured arsonists who fled after being shot at overnight while trying to set fire to the Kortam Tambon Administration Organisation (TAO) office in Yarang district.

Police found traces of blood after the two men fled.

They were spotted as they were about to torch the office and police opened fire on them, provincial police chief Pol Maj Gen Ekaphob Prasitwattanachai said on Monday.

However, many other TAO offices in the province did not escape the arsonists on Sunday.

Police said seven TAO offices were burned, some of them severely damaged, and the Yarang Municipality office was set on fire. Two burned TAO offices are in Yarang, three in Mayo and two in Nong Chik districts.

Insurgents also burned tyres at five locations in Yarang and damaged two mobile phone signal towers in Malan district.

Firefighters were called in and put out the blazes.
