Red-shirts demand cartoonist action

About 100 red-shirts rallied in front of the head office of Thai Rath newspaper on Vibhavadi Rangsit road on Tuesday afternoon, demanding action against cartoonist Somchai Katanyutanan, better known by his pen name Chai Ratchawat.

The red-shirts, led by Chatchawal Kritchanasut and Jutipong Poommoon, demanded to know what action the newspaper had taken against one of its most popular cartoonists.

On Friday, a lawyer representing Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra lodged a police complaint accusing Somchai of defaming the prime minister in his comments posted on his Facebook page.

Prakit Limsakul, adviser to the head of the Thai Rath editorial department, received a letter containing demands from the protesters.

He told them the matter was regarded as personal, but agreed to take their demands for consideration.
