Militant killed in Narathiwat clash

A militant was killed in a clash with soldiers of Narathiwat 30 special force in Narathiwat’s Rueso district early Saturday morning, reports said.

The soldiers, led by Lt Col Sathirapong Arthan, raided the house No 102/2 Ban Pubo in Rueso about 3.30am after receiving a tip that about seven armed men were hiding there.

On seeing the soldiers, the armed men in the house opened fire on them.  The two sides exchanged gunfire for about 10 minutes, after which the militants retreated, leaving behind one body.
The body was identified as that of Yamadee Hayibaka, 45, a resident of Ban Pulamong in Yala’s Raman district. He was shot in the head and body. Soldiers also found .38mm handgun beside his body.

Yamadee is wanted under several warrants for violation of emergency decree. He was arrested in February 2010 but was later released due to lack of evidence.

Sub Lt Suksan Chanthorn was critically injured in the clash and taken to Rueso hospital.
