China coal mine blast kills 27

A gas explosion killed 27 people in a coal mine in south-western China, state media reported Sunday.

Xinhua news agency said 108 miners were working underground when the blast occurred at in the Taozigou coal mine near the city of Luzhou in Sichuan province.

Sixteen of the 81 survivors were injured and required hospital care, Xinhua said.

The accident followed a gas explosion Friday at a mine in the south-western province of Guizhou killed 12 miners, Xinhua said.
