P.Thai picks Yuranunt for by-election

The Pheu Thai Party on Tuesday unanimously chose Yuranunt Pamornmontri as its candidate to run in the June 16 by-election in Bangkok's Constituency 12, party spokesman Prompong Nopparit said.

Mr Prompong said MPs of Zone 2 (Eastern Bangkok) agreed at a meeting to nominate Mr Yuranunt as the candidate for the by-election in the Don Muang area.

Mr Yuranunt was the only name nominated for the party's executive committee to consider.

The executive committee unanimously approved the nomination, believing that Mr Yuranunt would be acceptable to the constituency and able to work for the good of the party and Don Muang people, Mr Prompong said.

Since Mr Yuranunt is a party list MP, he will have to resign his House seat.  He will be replaced by Thirachai Wuthitham, the 76th candidate on the party list.

The executive committee appointed Information and Communication Technology Minister Anudith Nakornthap, chairman of Zone 2 MPs, the director of the party's by-election centre.

Mr Yuranunt said he was willing to resign as a party list MP, as the party wishes, and run in the by-election because his home  is in the Don Muang area.

The former actor and singer said he was aware there is polical conflict in the constituency and he would definitely not do anything to make it worse.

He believed there would be no violence in the by-election.
