Suranand: No cabinet reshuffle now

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has no intention of reshuffling the cabinet at this time, PM's secretary-general Suranand Vejjajiva said on Sunday.

Mr Suranand was responding to a rumour which had been spreading that a cabinet reshuffle was impending.

The rumour had it that United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship core member Jatuporn Prompan, Pheu Thai Party list MP Apiwan Wiriyachai and former Chiang Mai MP Pakorn Buranapakorn would be appointed to the cabinet.

Mr Suranand said although these three had the knowledge and capability to be cabinet ministers the prime minister did not have any intention of reshuffling the cabinet for the moment.

After returning to Bangkok from chairing the Asia-Pacific Water Summit in Chiang Mai, Ms Yingluck will leave for Japan to attend a meeting. After that she will have to prepare for the visit by India's prime minister before travelling to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

"Therefore, there will definitely not be a cabinet reshuffle in May or June," Mr Suranand said.

On the rally by the red shirts at Ratchaprasong intersection to mark the third anniversary of the May 19 crackdown on protesters, he said the prime minister was not worrying about it.

Mr Suranand said there was nothing wrong about the red shirts commemorating those who died demanding justice. He believed the rally would be peaceful.
