Aunt main suspect in Facebook brothel girl plight

Police are seeking an arrest warrant for the aunt of a 17-year-old girl rescued from a brothel in Seoul after she posted a message seeking help on her Facebook page.

The Anti-Human Trafficking Division has applied to the Criminal Court for a warrant to arrest Piengjai Phuplado, 43, who is the aunt of the teenage girl lured into the flesh trade in South Korea, Pol Col Chusak Apaisak said.

The court will consider the police request on Tuesday, he added.

Pol Lt Col Chusak said the police were confident they had the evidence to back up the request.

The police will send copies of the arrest warrant to the International Affairs Division of the Royal Thai Police, the Office of the Attorney-General and to Interpol after it is approved.

Ms Piengjai  is believed to be in South Korea. She was married to a Korean man and runs a Thai traditional massage palour in Seoul, he said.

The girl from Roi Et province had been working as a travel agent in Pattaya. She was convinced by her aunt to travel to South Korea to work in a restaurant. She arrived in South Korea on May 4 and shortly afterwards was forced to become a prostitute. Her passport was seized by members of a Korean gang.

She was saved and returned to Thailand on Saturday after telling a Thai friend on Facebook of her suffering.

Her friend, Pol Lt Col Thanin Chindamanee of Khok Si Suphan district police in Sakhon Nakhon province, relayed her story to the Social Development and Human Security Ministry, who later contacted the Anti-Human Trafficking Division. Police then asked  the Thai embassy in Seoul to help and Korean police rescued her.
