Two policemen killed by drunk driver

Two policemen died when their motorcycle was hit by a car driven by a drunk driver in Nakhon Phanom province on Monday night.

Pol Lt Anan Tawapakwan, a duty officer at Muang Nakhon Phanom police station, said the accident was reported on Liang Muang road.

Police sent to the scene found the bodies of Pol Sen Sgt Maj Prasert Linyoo, 44, and Pol Sgt Maj Kajornsak Kamchana, 34, on the roadside, along with a damaged police motorcycle and a bronze Honda Civic.

Choladet Sriharat, 29, approached the officers and told them that he was driving the car, accompanied by his friend, Uthai Srimuang, 23.

Mr Choladet said he and Mr Uthai were heading to That Phanom district when his car crashed into the motorcycle.

The driver took a breath test, which showed an alcohol level of 77mg per 100ml, beyond the legal limit of 50mg per 100ml.

He was charged with drunk driving and reckless driving causing death.
