3rd Khon Kaen murder suspect caught

Another suspect in the murder of the chief administrator of the Khon Kaen provincial administration organisation (PAO) has been arrested, deputy police chief Pansiri Prapawat said on Friday.

Pol Gen Pansiri said Prapan Sripilai, alias, Kwan, 41, was arrested at a rented house in Sattahip district of Chon Buri province by a special marine unit from Kromluang Chumphorn camp.  He did not say when the arrest took place.

Mr Prapan is one of the three suspects in the murder of Suchart Khotthum, 53, the chief administrator of the Khon Kaen PAO, who was shot dead in front of his house in Jompol housing estate in Muang district of Khon Kaen about 7am on May 3.

Following police investigation, warrants were issued for the arrest of Pol Lt Col Somjit Kaewprom, deputy police suppression chief of Nong Rua police station in Khon Kaen, Pol Sr Sgt Maj Veerasak Chamnanpol, of Nong Rua police station, and Mr Prapan.

Pol Sr Sgt Maj Veerasak was arrested on May 5 at a police checkpoint in Maha Sarakham province.  He accused Pol Lt Col Somjit of being an accomplice.

Pol Lt Col Somjit surrendered to the Metropolitan Police Bureau on May 17.  He denied the murder charge.

Mr Prapan also denied any involvement, saying he would testify only in court.

Pol Gen Pansiri said it was believed the three suspects had acted under an order of a superior whom they called "boss."

Pol Lt Gen Kawi Supanan, chief of the Region 4 Provincial Police, said adultery was believed to be the motive of the killing.

Police believed there is still another accomplice, who is now on the run, he said.
