Chinese 'fraudster' detained in Phuket

Immigration police have detained a 55-year-old Chinese man at Phuket airport on suspicion of fraud.

The man is wanted by Chinese authorities for alleged fraud involving more than 26 million baht.

Liu Benyue was arrested at the airport on Tuesday while he was travelling to meet his son. The court of Shandong province in China issued an arrest warrant for him.

Police said the man ran a company selling clothing from Cambodia but failed to deliver the goods after receiving money from customers.

He allegedly swindled them of US$842,739 plus 90,269 yuan _ a total of about 26.4 million baht.
