Anuchit Meetarn, 23, was apprehended at his home in Khon Kaen's Ban Haet district on Friday. Police seized a homemade pistol, a mobile phone and a motorcycle.

Police said Mr Anuchit told them that he was out clubbing with his friends in Muang district on Thursday night when the incident occurred. He said that Jatupon Ratworabood, the victim, and some others persistently tried to befriend his group while they were intoxicated.

As Mr Anuchit was about to drive his motorbike home with a friend, Jatupon approached them and asked for a lift to his dormitory. Seeing that the man was heavily intoxicated, Mr Anuchit picked him up.

Mr Anuchit said that Jatupon, sitting on the pillion between him and his friend, tried to molest him during the ride. As he parked to take a bathroom break, Jatupon followed him.

In a fit of rage, he shot the victim in the head and fled.

Pol Col Jarun Nuamthong, the commissioner of Khon Kaen police station, said officers used footage from a security camera near the crime scene to identify the shooter.

Police charged Mr Anuchit with murder and illegal possession of a weapon.
