WTF Gallery and Chulalongkorn University are pleased to present "Under Construction", a solo exhibition by Bangkok-based Japanese artist Eiji Sumi. It is a mixed-media exhibition comprised of paintings and installations influenced by the artist's obsession with construction sites.

By imitating visual patterns in his paintings and juxtaposing them with found objects from construction sites, Sumi transports viewers into a scene hovering between progressive expansion and dystopian decay. In "Under Construction", Sumi experiments with liberating his paintings from the confines of their frames through their placement and interactions with his installations and mixed-media artworks.

Collaborating with Sumi by designing sound art specifically for the exhibition is New York-based Swedish sound designer Niklas Moller.

"Trans-structurity" by Thasnai Sethaseree, an emerging artist educated in Chicago, reflects the concept of fear through sculptures, installations, 2D images and light-box pieces. By blurring the boundaries between disciplines, the ephemeral nature of this project makes visible the impurity of fear, and turns it into a temporary moment that can be continually changed.

The crucial questions this project raises are centred around the politics of fear and suppression in relation to risks represented and misrepresented by institutional agencies, to our understanding of how realistic the politically fearful climate of paranoia and distrust is in the world.

The "3rd Eye Trilogy" is a three-part series of Piyatat Hemmatat's photographs inspired by the mystery and beauty of looking into a lens _ the third eye he uses to create his photographic universe. Holding it against light, a lens reveals structures and shapes that are organic, and even futuristic. In the "third eye" we see a hidden universe of constellations and celestial formations unfolding, and in many belief systems, the "third eye" implies a gateway beyond.
