A Post Today report said most of the women protesters wore sarongs as a symbol of their stand against  the opposition leader, who made the insulting remark during a rally on Saturday.

The protesters wanted him to apologise and retract his comments. They also presented a sarong to second deputy House Speaker Wisut Chai-arun and asked him to give it to Mr Abhisit.

On Saturday, Mr Abhisit questioned the merits of the "Smart Lady Thailand" reality show, presided over by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. He used the term "e ngoh" (stupid woman), and commented that if there was a contest to find "e ngoh" then no one would enter.

The opposition leader's critics inferred this was a reference to Ms Yingluck. He denied it.
