Adopted son suspected of B30m theft

An 84-year-old woman has asked police to investigate her adopted son, telling them she suspects him of stealing cash, valuables and property title deeds worth a total of 30 million baht from the safe at her Nonthaburi home.

Kaisaeng Kumnerdmee told Nonthaburi Muang district police on Thursday that diamond and gold jewellery, and the title deeds to land she owns near Pantip Plaza in Bangkok, had gone missing from her safe.

Inspector Pol Lt Chatmongkol Kaokaew said that Ms Kaisaeng had asked police to investigate her 48-year-old adopted son, Witsawakorn Kumprakorb, suspecting that he was responsible for the theft.

She claimed that her signature had been forged to withdraw millions of baht from several of her bank accounts, the officer added.

Ms Kaisaeng told police that she noticed Mr Witsawakorn had recently purchased a house and had been spending a lot of money, despite not having a permanent job.

Suspicious, she asked her brother, Sombat Kumnerdmee, 66, to help check on her assets because she was getting more forgetful with age, which led to the discovery that her valuables and money were missing, Pol Lt Chatmongkol quoted her as saying.

Police have issued a summons for Mr Witsawakorn, Pol Col Chatmongkol said, adding that if he refuses to show, they will request a court warrant for his arrest.

Mr Witsawakorn could not be reached for comment.
