Freight derailment blocks NE rail track

Freight train No535 carrying bulk fuel derailed on Monday morning between Lat Bua Khao and Ban Mai Samrong stations in Sikhiu district of Nakhon Ratchasima province. There were no casualties.

State Railway of Thailand (SRT) governor Prapat Chongsanguan said the accident occurred about 8am.

He said a   piece of metal dropped from the brake system of one of the freight cars the rail, sending one tanker car off the track and blocking all trains  on the northeastern route.

Work was under way to salvage the derailed carriage and repair the track.  It was believed  train services would resume this afternoon, Mr Prapat said.

Mr Prapat also said due to the current flooding, a section of the rail track between Samrong Thap station in Surin province and Huay Thap Than station in Si Sa Ket province had been temporarily closed.
