Floodwaters from continuous downpours has surged through 454 schools in 12 provinces, causing over 38 million baht worth of damage, the Office of Basic Education Commission (Obec) said on Wednesday.

The provinces affected by the flood include Surin, Si Sa Ket, Chaiyaphum, Prachin Buri, Saraburi, Nakhon Sawan, Phichit, Lop Buri, Ubon Ratchathani, Pathum Thani, Uthai Thani and Ayutthaya.

According to a report from the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, 25 provinces are battling widespread floods which have killed at least 23 people this year.

Heavy rain brought by Typhoon Wutip, which rumbled through Thailand on Tuesday, worsened the situation for Nong Khai, Loei, Sakon Nakhon, Phetchabun and Uttaradit.

Deputy Prime Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi warned on Tuesday that more storms may follow Wutip, which weakened from a typhoon into a tropical depression when it hit Thailand, bringing heavy rain.
