Anti-government protesters of the Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand (NSPRT) on Saturday began a mission to place Thai national flags at all police checkpoints in restricted areas.

The protesters, led by NSPRT adviser Nitithorn Lamlua, marched from their rally site at the Makkawan Rangsan Bridge on Ratchadamnoen Nok Road to the security checkpoints set up by police in Dusit, Phra Nakhon and Pomprap Sattruphai  districts.

The three districts have been declared restricted areas under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

Mr Nitithorn said the marchers would carry out their activities in a peaceful manner.

But if police did not allow protesters to do so, he said, organisers would lead protesters to the Royal Thai Police headquarters and bring down the national flag from its flagpole.

He said the marchers planned to place national flags at all state agencies next week, but refused to provide further details.
