Dine at the museum

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

The Thai royal cuisine and culture from the past to present, and the development of Thai street food originating from it will be unveiled at Museum Siam from Friday to Sunday.

The fourth edition of the "Night At The Museum" will focus on the traditional recipes from the royal Thai palace during the reign of King Rama V of the Chakri Dynasty.

The recipes feature distinctive flavours by Phra Vimada Ther Phra Ong Chao Saisavali Bhiromya, one of HM's consorts who was praised as one of the most skilful cooks of Siam. Her heritage cuisines have been practised and have contributed to the innovation of many contemporary Thai dishes. And some of her recipes will be presented by teachers and students from Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University during a cooking demonstration.

Among the dishes are nam prik luk nam liab (salted black Chinese olive chilli paste), nam prik long rua (chilli paste with crispy deep-fried fish and pork), nam prik takrai (lemongrass and chilli paste), rice-stuffed cabbage, crispy rice, and braised chicken with chilli paste and milk.

There is also a cooking workshop offering hands-on experience on the royal Thai cuisines many of which can be seen on our dining table today.

Available for visitors to sample will be street foods with unique cooking methods from the royal cuisines, as well as 30 booths of all kinds of delicious dishes from famous food shops. The menus include beef noodle, phad thai, and chicken rice curry with coconut. The dining atmosphere will be complemented with music throughout the three evenings which run from 6pm to 10pm.

Museum Siam is on Sanam Chai Road, a short distance from the Grand Palace and Wat Pho. However, there will be a free shuttle van service to take visitors from BTS Wong Wian Yai Exit 1 and MRT Hua Lamphong Station Exit 4 to the exhibition, plus a free tuk-tuk service at Tha Chang pier and Khao San Road.
