A territorial defence volunteer was shot to death in Sungai Padi district of Narathiwat province on Saturday, police said.
According to Pol Lt Anukul Chaisuwan, the duty officer at the Sungai Padi police station, the incident occurred before noon on the Sungai Padi-Sako road at Ban Juerae in tambon Riko.
Witnesses said that while Kamani Mama, 56, a defence volunteer in tambon Kawa, was travelling on a motorcycle to the municipality of tambon Paluru he was followed by two men on another motorcycle. The pillion rider opened fire at him with a 9mm pistol.
Kamani was hit four times in the body. He was killed instantly.
Police were investigating.
