The Thai women's cricketers are going from strength to strength as they head towards the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Scotland at the end of the month.

Thailand will be hoping to play in a Cricket World Cup for the first time if they can reach the final in Scotland and they have been playing some superb cricket of late.

At a four-team tournament in the Netherlands, Thailand recently recorded their 17th consecutive victory in official women's T20 internationals which eclipsed the previous world record of 16 straight triumphs set by cricket powerhouse Australia.

Although the record winning streak run came to an end as they lost to Scotland in a thrilling last-ball finish, two more wins over Ireland and the Netherlands earned Thailand yet another trophy as they finished with five wins in six games to top the standings on 10 points.

The Thai women's team had earlier been awarded the ICC Associate team of the year for 2018, when they made their breakthrough win by beating Sri Lanka in the Women's Asia Cup in Malaysia.

Their winning streak began with two victories as they ended the 2018 ICC Women's World T20 Qualifiers on a high.

They then remained unbeaten, winning two international competitions in Bangkok at the start of 2019 in the process before heading to Deventer in the Netherlands at the beginning of this month to play against Ireland, Scotland and the hosts.

Thailand's convincing victories over Scotland in the Netherlands tournament are of great significance as both are highly rated teams.

All four teams will be taking part in the ICC Qualifiers in Scotland with two places for the next T20 World Cup to be held in Australia in 2020 up for grabs.
