Defender Kevin Deeromram and teenage midfielder Benjamin Davis have been included in Thailand's preliminary squad for next month's AFC U23 Championship on home soil.

Most of the players in the 33-strong squad announced by the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) yesterday were members of the team who were eliminated in the first round of the SEA Games in the Philippines earlier this month.

Among them are forwards Suphanat Mueanta, Supachok Sarachart and Supachai Chaided.

Port left back Kevin was axed from the U23 squad for the SEA Games by coach Akira Nishino.

The Swedish-Thai star did not join the national training camp with reports suggesting that he had pulled out because of an injury.

However, he took part in a warm-up game for Port while the national team training was underway.

Benjamin, who represented Singapore's U19 side in the past, plays for English Championship (second tier) club Fulham.

The players will begin training at Summit Windmill Golf Club on Thursday ahead of the Jan 8-26 AFC U23 Championship. Nishino will later trim the squad to 23 players.

Thailand are in Group A along with Bahrain, Australia and Iraq.

The tournament will be held at Bangkok's Rajamangala National Stadium, Buri Ram's Chang Arena, Songkhla's Tinsulanonda Stadium and Thammasat Stadium in Rangsit.

The event also serves as Asia's qualifying round for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with the top three teams earning tickets to the Games.
