'Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed' launch trailer: wind machines and kart combat

- +

Sonic & All-Star Racing Transformed has been making waves for the right reasons -- great reviews, smart pricing, and a soundtrack from a Sega fan favorite, the last of which is in full effect for the game's hectic launch trailer.

The game enters the racing genre during a busy year. There's been Mario Kart 7 to delight Nintendo 3DS owners, LittleBigPlanet Karting for the PlayStation 3, while Forza Horizon reworked an established franchise on Xbox 360, F1 Race Stars carried with it an official license, and Need for Speed: Most Wanted was presented as worthwhile successor to Burnout Paradise.

So it's to All-Star Racing Transformed's advantage that it carries a lower price tag -- typically 20 percent less than its competitors on 360 and PS3 -- as well as praise from reviewers.

The trailer's up-tempo soundtrack with its peppy dubstep elements shows the influence of regular Sega composer Richard Jacques in picking and remixing themes from various Sega series such as Alex Kidd, Golden Axe and OutRun, as well as producing original tunes for the game.

All-Stars Racing Transformed's trailer also manages to cram in a cheeky reference to the Wii U version of the game, which boasts 5-player local multiplayer courtesy of the Wii U GamePad, as opposed to the standard four-player mode and ten-player online scramble.
