Nintendo's Pokemon app appears on App Store | Bangkok Post: tech

An official Pokédex app for iOS allows fans to examine hundreds of Pokémon in detail, check out their defining features, and learn where to find them in the Nintendo games Pokémon Black, White, Black 2 and White 2.

The base app, Pokédex for iOS, needs an iOS 6 device to run (so iPhone 3GS and up, iPad 2 and up, iPad Mini, iPod Touch fourth gen and up). It registers on iTunes at $1.99 (€1.79/£1.49) and allows owners to flick through the stats for just over 150 Pokémon, hailing from the games' Unova region.

Completionists will then be encouraged to obtain a further four supplementary Pokédex packs, one each for the Kanto, Sinnoh, Hoenn and Johto regions, contain 493 extra Pokémon in all, for $5.99 (€5.49/£3.99) per pack.

That puts the sum total at $25.95 (€23.75/£17.45), almost a third more than the downloadable Pokédex app on Nintendo's portable 3DS console.

Price concerns notwithstanding, it's a rare outing for Pokémon on a non-Nintendo platform, or for any Nintendo character for that matter, so at the very least Pokédex provides some sort of official App Store presence at last.

It's still up to other titles -- Zynga's Montopia, Little Masters and Zenforms: Protectors among them -- to provide a Pokémon-esque experience on non-Nintendo devices; for those who don't require a Nintendo sanctioned Pokédex, there's still the fan-made website veekun.com/dex.
