Seminal platform adventure "Flashback: The Quest for Identity" is due a modern remake, according to information received by French website Gameblog.
The original "Flashback" game in its Sega Genesis guise
With a sci-fi backstory that evoked "Blade Runner" and "Total Recall," "Flashback" was especially well known for the exceptional fluency of its animations, co-opting human actors for a realistic feel, as did contemporaries "Prince of Persia," "Another World" and, more recently, "Heavy Rain" and "L.A. Noire."
An image supplied by an unnamed source shows main character Conrad Hart back in the jungle and looking better than ever, while Gameblog advises that government funding of €300,000 had been granted in November 2011 for the development of "Flashback Origins."
The "Flashback Origins" formulation may indicate more than a simple HD remake in the works at "Flashback" creator Paul Cuisset's VectorCell studio: one-time collaborator Michel Ancel led Ubisoft's reinvigoration of another veteran series with "Rayman Origins" in 2011, and "Rayman Legends" is now due later in 2013.
