Tesco Lotus rolls out mobile loyalty app and in-store Wi-Fi

- +

Tesco Lotus has introduced a new-generation mobile app designed to appeal to consumers on the lookout for bargains. The software has many novel features, but one that customers will immediately see the value of is the e-coupon, which can be used for promotions within Tesco Lotus itself as well as other shops located within its shopping centres. Customers will receive instant notification whenever a new e-coupon becomes available and so will be able to take advantage of various offers much more quickly than before.

Clubcard is the current system operated by Tesco Lotus under which regular shoppers accumulate points for all purchases made; these can later be redeemed in the form of vouchers to be spent in-store. Now the firm has developed a mobile app called Virtual Clubcard which will enable customers to collect points in the usual way while obviating the need for them to carry around an actual loyalty card or a wad of paper coupons. All you have to do is use your mobile phone to scan the barcode on your current Clubcard; the data will then be stored in your phone for future use.

"Coupons and Clubcard are both popular with customers and are among the best ways we can return value to customers on their shopping, and now we can deliver both of these benefits digitally," said Tesco Lotus marketing director Wanna Swuddigul.

Customers will also be able to check for the latest Tesco Lotus promotions on their smartphones and, like those who sign up for the e-coupon system, they will receive instantaneous notification of any new promotions.

The new app also contains a link to Tesco Lotus Shop Online where one can buy essential items without ever setting foot in a physical store. The retail giant says free Wi-Fi is now available at all its big-store formats in Bangkok, of which there are three _ Hypermarket (the basic supermarket), Extra (an upgrade on this) and Department Store (separate check-outs for food and non-food items). The firm has also promised that Wi-Fi will be rolled out to all branches nationwide in these three categories by the end of this year.

The Tesco Lotus mobile app is available on both iOS and Android.
