PATTANI -- The driver of the chief of Thung Yang Daeng district was shot dead in an ambush on Monday night, police said.
The attack occurred about 8.50pm when Maso Chewae was returning home on a motorcycle. He was driving past Pattanasart School at Moo 4 village in tambon Nam Dam when gunmen opened fire at him with M16 rifles.
Maso, who was a defence volunteer working as a driver for the district chief, was hit many times in the body. He was pronounced dead at Thung Yang Daeng Hospital.
Police were investigating.
