CHACHOENGSAO: A brother and a sister, aged 8 and 6, drowned in a pond behind their house in Sanam Chai Khet of this eastern Central province on Saturday.
Police, accompanied by members of a local rescue unit, went to a house at Huay Hin village in tambon Lat Krathing after being informed that Rakkaew Dechi, 8, and his younger sister Pranee, 8, had disappeared.
Their missing children's elder sister, who looked after them while their parents were out working, told police she feared the two might have drowned in the backyard pond about 300 metres from the house. Their shoes were found on the edge of the 10m x 10m pond, which is about 4m deep.
Divers scoured the pond and retrieved the bodies of the two siblings at about 6.30pm. The bodies were entangled in the line of a fishing rod. They were believed to have died about six hours previously.
