Livid about Lumpini

Re: "No surprises", (PostBag, May 13), & "Accident waiting to happen", (BP, May 12).

I agree with Shane's letter and would like to add to the BMA article that the BMA should review and improve its own performance, not just blame other agencies.

In Lumpini Park, all the manhole covers (of the sewer network) are in poor condition. On top are out-of-shape thin steel plates apparently borrowed from some other facilities. Some are placed over cracked concrete covers; some have plywood planks sandwiched beneath. The manholes are surrounded by plastic string tied on makeshift sticks at the four corners, with signs in Thai and English: "DANGER [do not step on]". It is obvious these things are old -- must be months or years old, and some of the string has loosened.

These deteriorated facilities should take days or weeks to correct, not months or years. The facilities are under the full control of the BMA. Lumpini Park is a popular place, with thousands, or tens of thousands, of visitors each day. Yet, it receives such poor attention from the BMA.

Bother with bills

I submitted a letter about this issue a couple of years ago, but it was never published. The problem has grown worse, and I doubt I'm the only one experiencing this monthly frustration.

The problem is my True Visions bill. I can't get the thing open! Here's the drill...

Fold and tear off one end. Usually, it's not a clean tear. Repeat with the other end. Try to find the sealed edge. Try to get it open. Most times, it rips the page. Repeat with the other edge. Paste back on the part(s) that were ripped off. Stagger to 7/11 to pay the bill.

Today, I forgot (Freudian slip?) to open the bill at home. It took three people at the 7/11 five minutes to figure it out and get it open... It's worse now than it was two years ago because True now includes an extra page of advertising, making the bill thicker, harder to fold and tear, and more prone to getting messed up because it has more glued edges.

This is only a TV bill, for heaven's sake. But it's locked up tighter than Donald Trump's taxes!

No laughing matter

Re: "Vaccination woes", (PostBag, May 12).

T Chufflbottom, seemingly amused, writes, "Since getting the Covid and influenza vaccines, the latter of which -- *gasp* -- contains DNA, I have grown a third eye and developed gills, allowing me to live underwater."

Since the vaccine's active ingredient is coated with a lipid nanolayer, it easily enters cells through their protective membranes.

There, the DNA, which has been shown to be a common contaminant, can be incorporated into newly assembling human DNA. No magical organs are likely to result, but data shows that this DNA is responsible for a statistically high incidence of aggressive forms of cancer among the vaccinated population across all age groups.

What exactly does Chufflebottom find amusing about this, one wonders?

The bigger picture

Re: "Mad about manholes", (PostBag, May 7) & "Hole of tragedy", (Editorial picture, May 7).

The downside of the internet is that people use it to nitpick. What is a manhole? Does anyone care? A person fell down a badly covered hole and died. Manhole? Shaft? Does it matter? A person died.
