BMW Thailand will use its annual Xpo car event in Central World from September 12-15 to highlight the new 8 Series Convertible.

Forming as the second body silhouette in the newly established 8 Series family in Thailand after the Coupe, the open-top 2+2 comes in just M850i xDrive guise.

The 530hp 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, eight-speed auto and all-wheel drive are the same with those used in the Coupe, which also comes in only one version in Thai showrooms.

The M850i Convertible has a soft-top that can open or close in 15sec within speeds of 50kph. Suiting its cruising concept is an array of driver-assist technologies.

The price for the M850i Convertible is set at 13.459 million baht, 500k more than its hard-top sibling. The open-top Eight is also the cheapest V8-powered convertible in the Thai luxury car market.

The Mercedes-Benz S560 Cabriolet comes with 469hp 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 but costs a higher 16.72 million baht.

Due to their higher brand positioning, the Aston Martin DB11, Bentley GT Convertible and Ferrari Portofino costs in excess of 20 million baht.

More variations of the 8 Series have already been unveiled abroad but have yet to be launched in Thailand. They include the Gran Coupe, highlighting four doors and a coupe shape, and the full-fat M8 models.
