It really looks macho!

Don’t treat Audi’s latest RS7 Sportback merely as an A7 with a new heart and uniform.

For the first time, the RS7 Sportback sports a 40mm wider stance than in the donor vehicle, plus huge 22in wheels and black air vents playing to that macho effect the car has on your eyes.

Like in the RS6 Avant announced earlier, the RS7 Sportback receives the same 600hp/800Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, eight-speed automatic transmission and 3.6sec 0-100kph acceleration time.

Also identical are the all-wheel drive system able of sending up to 70% of drive to the front or 85% to the rear, 20mm lowered suspension and 48V mild hybrid.

But as the RS7 Sportback isn’t an estate, it has gotten a rear spoiler that pops up at speeds over 100kph to increase stability.

Does the distinction generally lie in the body style?

Broadly speaking, the circa-12 million baht RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback are common relatives distinguished merely by their uniform.

For those needing a super-fast family car for the weekend, it’d probably be that estate. The sleek fastback, on the other hand, should be for drivers prioritising looks over practicality.

Model-on-model, the RS7 Sportback is without a direct rival in the luxury car market because there’s no BMW M6 Gran Turismo or Mercedes-AMG CLS63 in existence.

Mercedes, in particular, has just recalibrated its target to brands with richer image. The Mercedes-AMG GT63 S 4-Door Coupe takes on the Porsche Panamera in the 15 million baht vicinity of super-fast sedans.
