NTT Data Asia Pacific, part of the Tokyo-based IT services provider, has acquired Locus Telecommunication, a systems integration firm based in Bangkok, saying the move could drive NTT to attain the pole position in IT solutions and services in Thailand within a few years.
The acquisition was announced by Locus in a press release on Tuesday.
"We are very excited to welcome the talented Locus team to NTT Data," said Ken Tsuchihashi, president and chief executive of NTT Data Asia Pacific.
Locus has about 150 employees, ranging from professional IT consultants and business analysts to system developers.
"I'm confident that they will accelerate our ability to support customers in their digital transformation journeys," Mr Tsuchihashi said. "Through collaborations with Locus and other NTT group entities, we expect to become a top provider of IT solutions and services in Thailand within a few years."
Locus, founded in 1999, focuses on providing systems integration services in Thailand. The company specialises in solutions for customer relationship management and customer experience, as well as loyalty programme management, business intelligence and data analytics.
Andrew Yim, chief executive of Locus, which has provided services for more than 100 clients, said NTT Data can offer access to Locus's depth of service and innovative global technology.
This will enable Locus to thrive, moving away from being a niche player and becoming a more comprehensive business solutions provider, Mr Yim said.
"NTT Data will both strengthen our core business and help us accelerate our expansion into big data, artificial intelligence and enterprise resource planning practices," he said.
NTT Data said the acquisition opens the door for the firm to access customers in a broad range of industries.
A source who requested anonymity at IDC Thailand, a research firm, said the deal could pave the way for an end-to-end solution portfolio capitalising on increasing demand for digital transformation and convergence.
The deal creates a bigger value chain for the company that could better serve the ICT market through synergy between the two companies, the source said.
