Thailand Post is expediting its parcel delivery services, allowing customers to send packages in the morning to be delivered in the afternoon the same day, competing head-on with international couriers and parcel delivery services.
The state-owned courier is promoting express mail services (EMS) with a year-end campaign offering customers discounts and giveaways to stimulate parcel delivery during important festivals such as Father's Day, Christmas and New Year's Day.
Thailand Post is offering up to a 70% instant discount on services for those who deposit five or more items, and for users who post with cash-on-delivery (COD) service.
The company is also introducing lottery prizes for customers who use EMS, valued at about 9 million baht.
EMS has become speedier. Parcels that are sent in the morning are delivered in the afternoon the same day, and parcels sent in the afternoon are delivered early the next morning.
Thailand Post expects to deliver 3 billion parcels in 2019, a record high among the country's transport and logistics service providers.
For items weighing 0.5-2 kilogrammes, the postal service fee has been reduced to 55 baht, while items weighing 2-7kg are charged a reduced fee of 80 baht.
There is also a special discount for recipients via COD using the Wallet @ Post service, including immediate discounts from the first delivery.
President Smorn Terdthampiboon said that with the growth of e-commerce, the number of parcels in Thailand Post's network has increased steadily, with 8 million parcels processed at over 10,000 post offices nationwide every day.
