SET-listed PTT Exploration and Production Plc (PTTEP), the oil and gas drilling arm of PTT Group, has appointed Montri Rawanchaikul as its new president and chief executive.

Mr Montri, recently appointed as a new PTTEP president and chief executive, wants to help the company strengthen petroleum exploration and production business to ensure national energy security. PTTEP
Mr Montri, currently acting president and vice-president of PTTEP's Production Asset Group, will succeed incumbent PTTEP president and chief executive Phongsthorn Thavisin when his term ends next month.
The company's overseas assets, notably Oman's Block 61 gas field in the Middle East, and Block H Project, its first offshore gas production in Malaysia, as well as higher gas nominations in the Gulf of Thailand, contributed to its 28% growth in total revenue.
Revenue increased to US$3.54 billion, or 109.7 billion baht, in the first half of 2021, up from $2.78 billion, or 87.5 billion baht in the same period last year, according to the company's report released last week.
The appointment of Mr Montri, recently approved by the PTTEP board, will take effect from Oct 1 this year.
Mr Montri has expertise in managing international assets, including those located in Oman, Iran and Australia.
He was previously in charge of PTTEP's strategy and business development.
The 57-year-old executive has a strong background in science, having received a master's degree in exploration geophysics from the University of New South Wales in Australia. Mr Montri chose physics as a major during his undergraduate study at Chiang Mai University.
Mr Montri aims to strengthen PTTEP's petroleum exploration and production business to ensure national energy security.
PTTEP is poised to become a major natural gas producer in Southeast Asia as it has rapidly developed newly discovered petroleum fields.
The company said Mr Montri also pays heed to digital technology and energy development and keeps PTTEP in line with environmental, social and governance standards.
He wants to help PTTEP drive forward its carbon capture utilisation and storage project in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and pave the way for a net-zero goal, according to the company. The global campaign requires countries to strike a balance between emissions and absorption of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
In another development, PTTEP's wholly owned AI and Robotics Ventures Co has teamed up with Singapore-based RotoTech Co to deliver the world's first vertical pipe inspection and maintenance robotic service, called "Roto Climber".
"Roto Climber is remotely controlled and can operate without divers and vessels," said Simon Hartog, RotoTech managing director.
