Want a discount each time you buy something? Then cashback credit cards could be your answer.

Even though credit cards can push buyers into the bad habit of shopping addiction because they can immediately get things with the swipe of a card and pay later, they can be financially rewarding if cardholders use them in the right way.

As competition in the credit-card business hots up, more card issuers are rolling out cashback incentives to prompt holders to spend more.

Given the different categories and rates of cashback bonuses, cardholders should check out which cards offer the most benefits that fit their lifestyles.

If you are a shopping maniac, cashback campaigns at shopping centres would be the best choice. Credit-card issuers normally join hands with department stores or shopping centres in offering some money back to cardholders when their purchases hit the required amount. Sometimes they issue co-brand cards with cashback privileges.

Bangkok Bank's Titanium card offers a rebate of up to 2% for every baht spent with a cashback cap of 2,000 baht per card per statement cycle for all types of purchase. The cashback will be credited to the credit-card accounts.

Cardholders earn 0.5% cashback for the first 25,000 baht spent, 0.75% for spending more than 25,000 baht but not exceeding 100,000 baht, 1% for spending more than 100,000 baht but no more than 200,000 baht and 2% for spending more than 200,000 baht.

The Titanium card also awards 3% cashback on every 800 baht of petrol purchased at Bangchak and Caltex petrol stations nationwide, with a maximum of six transactions per statement cycle. Cashback for petrol purchase is capped at 144 baht per card per billing cycle and runs until June 30.

Titanium cardholders who pay off the full due amount each statement cycle are able to enjoy cashback incentives.     

Kasikornbank's MasterCard Titanium card gives holders 1% money back for every petrol purchase at petrol stations, restaurants and supermarkets and a 0.5% rebate for other spending.

Cardholders earn a maximum cashback of 2,000 baht but no more than 500 baht for each spending category per statement cycle. Cash withdrawals and utility bill payments are excluded.

The Krungthai Card offers cashback rewards for petrol purchases. Cards such as this one can be financially rewarding if used in a sensible manner.

The Citibank Cash Back Platinum card gives a 1% cash rebate on each type of purchase with the exception of cash advances, balance transfers, mutual funds and utility bills. Holders can earn a maximum 2,000 baht per statement cycle.

The Thanachart Drive MasterCard Platinum card offers the highest rebate for petrol purchases. Holders earn 3.1% cashback on spending of up to 5,000 baht per statement cycle at participating petrol stations and 1.5% for spending from 5,001 to 10,000 baht.

The non-Platinum version gives 2.1% back for petrol purchases of up to 5,000 baht per statement cycle at participating petrol stations and 1% for spending from 5,001 to 10,000 baht.  

Krungsri Visa Platinum cardholders earn 2% back for petrol purchases at Bangchak petrol stations with a cap of 1,000 baht each time. Each card allows five petrol discounts per statement cycle. For Japanese food lovers, Krungsri offers rebates of up to 1,000 baht a month when using its credit cards at more than 400 Japanese restaurants nationwide.

The Tesco Lotus Visa Platinum card offers up to 3.5% money back for spending up to 15,000 baht per statement cycle at Tesco Lotus stores and its online shop. For spending more than 15,000 baht, holders receive 1.5% back through Clubcard Rewards vouchers. They also earn a 0.5% cash rebate through vouchers for other spending.

The Tesco Lotus Visa Gold card gives up to 2.5% money back for spending up to 15,000 baht per statement cycle at Tesco Lotus and its online shop. It also offer 0.5% cashback through Clubcard Rewards vouchers for other spending.
