SUKHOTHAI: A small plane made a safe emergency landing in a rice field on Monday after an engine problem forced the pilot to end the flight.

Police in Sri Satchanalai district called to the scene reported the single-engined plane was overturned in a field near a dirt road.

The pilot, Prakit Sappipattana, was unhurt. He told police he was flying from Chiang Mai province to Bangkok. The engine cut out and he had no choice but to find a place to land.
