There's just over a week left for bookworms to browse the nearly 20,000 second-hand titles available at discount prices at Dasa Book Cafe, which is hosting a big sale until the end of the month.
The massive sale at Sukhumvit's beloved second-hand bookstore is to celebrate Dasa's 15th anniversary. A huge collection of quality second-hand English books is on sale for 20% off their regular prices, starting from just 70 baht. The books include fiction and nonfiction, spanning everything from history to biography, crime to horror, graphic novels to sci-fi, music to the arts, travel to children's literature. All books in the store are on sale except for those titles already discounted, found in the "Blowout" section, located on the table outside the shop, and the piles of books on the 3rd floor. The discounts also apply to second-hand music CDs.
Opened in 2004, Dasa Book Cafe is one of the biggest and best second-hand bookshops in Bangkok. According to its website, "dasa" is derived from the name of revered Thai monk Buddhadasa Bhikkhu. The word "dasa" is also the Pali word for "slave", meant to imply that book lovers are slaves to books and can't live without reading.
With its cosy atmosphere and friendly staff, the three-storey shop offers a wealth of rare and collectable publications in English, as well as some titles in other languages, including French, German and Italian. A handful of new titles also come in each month. As the name implies, it is a cafe as well as a bookstore, and visitors can purchase a cup of coffee or tea and home-baked goodies on the first floor.
Dasa Book Cafe is located at 714/4 Sukhumvit Road (between Sois 26 and 28) and is open daily, 10am- 8pm. Call 02-661-2993 or visit http://dasabookcafe.com for more information.
