Wua tang clans at Seacon Square

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

The charms of the Lanna Kingdom will take centre stage at the Visit Klin Kasalong Origin fair at Seacon Square, Srinakarin Road, from tomorrow until Oct 20.

With an atmosphere recreating Mae Chaem district of Chiang Mai, the background location of the hit TV soap Klin Kasalong, the fair celebrates the culture and traditions of the mid-Lanna period, from the language and costumes to the day-to-day experiences, as portrayed in the series.

Visitors can see a replica of Wat Pa Daet, an example of the Jaturamuk style, and of Wat Ton Kwen which is considered the archetype of Lanna architecture.

More than 200 vendors will be selling food and products at the Lanna-style market kad mua where the traditional northern kantoke dinner will also be served.

On display will be reproductions of wua tang or oxcarts used by traders of the era. Wua tang traders were pioneers in the trade of local products in the North.

This is also an opportunity to check out the beautiful wrap-around skirts or sarongs made from Mae Chaem's teen jok fabric, which is handwoven in delicate patterns. This weaving technique has been passed down from generation to generation, all the way down to the present day. All Mae Chaem women are expected to own at least one teen jok sarong.

There will be a demonstration on how to make miang cha mak, the popular after-meal snack, as well as Lanna cultural dance and music performances every day.
