Family, friends and fans bid final farewell to the late Saranyu Wongkrachang on Thursday, with a memorable message from his wife.

"Now our lives are separated, but our love never will be," Hattaya Wongkrachang wrote on an Instagram post with a picture of her beloved husband surrounded by a heart-shaped wreath of yellow roses.

Mourners flocked to Wat Nak Prok in Phasi Charoen district to make their final goodbyes to one of Thailand's most celebrated actors at his royally-sponsored cremation.

His friends from Suankularb Wittayalai School and Chulalongkorn University played school and university songs for him for the last time.

Saranyu, better known by his nickname "Tua", died of liver cancer on June 10 at the age of 59.

He was not only a role model for other actors, he was praised by many for his political and social activities.

"I have promised that I will carry on the no-smoking campaign for youth and no-smoking campaign for artists that Tua and Sor Assanajinda initiated," Prakit Vathesatogkit, the leader of the Action on Smoking and Health Foundation, wrote on his Twitter account.

Saranyu is survived by his wife and twin daughters, Supara and Sitala.
