An unlikely fairy tale about a princess on her journey to the edge of the universe and a lost prince will be presented through a stage reading at RCB Forum, 2nd floor of River City Bangkok, Charoen Krung 24, on Saturday and Sunday, and on Nov 11 and 12 at 1pm and 6pm.
Saddest Princess On Planet No.4: The Staged Reading is one of two intriguing plays staged for the Bangkok Theatre Festival 2023 by RCB Experimental Art Lab by River City Bangkok.
Adapted from the YA book Princess by Binlah Sonkalagiri, recipient of the SEA Write Award in 2002, this is a reimagined theatrical piece that captivates and brings the essence of the original narrative to life on stage.
It takes the form of a stage reading, lasting for 90 minutes, where actors need not adorn costumes or intricate sets. They simply hold the script and move within the space, reading their lines with fresh genuine emotions as they rely on the connection between the audience and the performers.
It's an experimental theatrical blend, merging the art of storytelling, theatre and film with live musical performances.
After this show, the narrative of the play will be later adapted into a cinematic piece.
This theatrical production is presented by AORTA, a collective of innovative artists who have created a plethora of art through the perspective of the newer generations. Their works range from scripts and short films to stage plays -- all with the aim of bringing diverse Asian narratives and tales to the international stage.
Directed and written by Aim-ei Polpitak, a versatile award-winning writer, artist, filmmaker and playwright, the script for Saddest Princess On Planet No.4 has also been chosen as part of the SGIFF Film Lab 2022. It won the Runner-Up BAFF SEA PITCH award in Southeast Asia and was also chosen to be showcased at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2023.
Tickets cost 400 baht and can be purchased from ticketmelon.com.
