New releases that hit cinemas in Thailand this week.

Kung Fu Panda 4

Directed by Mike Mitchell and Stephanie Stine.

Who’s in it?

Jack Black, Awkwafina and Viola Davis.

What’s it about?

After Po is tapped to become the spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace, he needs to find and train a new dragon warrior, while a wicked sorceress plans to re-summon all the master villains whom Po has vanquished to the spirit realm.

Why watch it?

The first Kung Fu Panda sequel not to be directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson.

Imaginary

Directed by Jeff Wadlow.

Who’s in it?

DeWanda Wise, Tom Payne and Veronica Falcón.

What’s it about?

A woman returns to her childhood home to discover that the imaginary friend she left behind is very real and unhappy that she abandoned him.

Why watch it?

The first trailer, which first premiered in front of “Five Nights At Freddy’s" (2023), consisted almost entirely sound effects over a blank screen, encouraging audiences to use their imagination.


The Bricklayer

Directed by Renny Harlin.

Who’s in it?

Aaron Eckhart, Nina Dobrev and Clifton Collins Jr.

What’s it about?

Steve Vail, a seasoned ex-CIA operative, is drawn back into the shadows to confront a formidable extortionist threatening the agency's very existence. Vail's expertise and cunning are put to the test as he unravels a complex web of intrigue, navigating through hidden agendas and treacherous alliances. As the stakes escalate, Vail must rely on his instincts and training to outwit his adversaries, uncover their true motives and protect the secrets that could compromise national security. With time running out and the fate of the agency hanging in the balance, Vail embarks on a perilous mission to neutralize the extortionist and restore order.

Why watch it?

For the goofs. CIA documents have spelling errors in their headers. One has "privledged" instead of "privileged" and it's the document Dobrev's character reviews on her laptop during the flight to Greece. The other is a paper file that says "Informatiion" instead of "Information" in a scene later on.


The Zone Of Interest

Directed by Jonathan Glazer.

Who’s in it?

Christian Friedel, Sandra Hüller and Johann Karthaus.

What’s it about?

Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss and his wife Hedwig strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden beside the camp.

Why watch it?

Based on the novel by Sir Martin Amis, who died on May 19, 2023, the same day the film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

Shaitaan

Directed by Vikas Bahl. 

Who's in it?

Ajay Devgn, Madhavan, Jyothika and Janki Bodiwala.

What's it about?

A timeless tale of battle between good and evil with a family embodying the forces of righteousness while a man symbolises malevolence. 

Why watch it?

Jyothika returning to Hindi films after 26 years. She debuted opposite Akshaye Khanna in "Doli Saja Ke Rakhna" (1998).
