L'Odyssée Trio, a talented and dynamic musical ensemble, presents the "Bach Illuminations" concert at Sala Sudasiri Sobha, Lat Phrao 41 yaek 7-2, this Sunday at 4pm.
Comprising Thanida Iamsirikulmitr (flute), Nutthan Surinpaeng (cello) and Kant Lormsomboon (piano), they will showcase the differences and evolution of music from the Baroque period of Johann Sebastian Bach to the Classical period of Johann Christian Bach, highlighting the transformation and enduring power of music across time.
The repertoire ranges from classical works by the sons and contemporaries of J.S. Bach to Richard Meyer's arrangements of Thai folk songs.
Composed in the late 18th century by J.C. Bach, Piano Trio In D Major embodies classical elegance and invites listeners into a world of refined beauty and musical conversation; while Wilhelm Friedemann Bach's Flute Sonata In E Minor is the typical example of his highly individual style, distinguished by close motivic dovetailing of melody and bass lines.
J.S. Bach's Viola Da Gamba Sonata In G Major which opens the set was adapted from the previously written Trio Sonata For Two Flutes And Basso Continuo. Also featured is Flute Sonata In E Minor by C.P.E. Bach whose works are known for the unpredictability and expressive qualities, which were a departure from his father's style.
The evening programme will conclude with Fantasia On A Theme From Thailand by Richard Meyer (arranged by Nutthan Surinpaeng). This captivating work is a set of variations on the Pong Lang Dance, one of Thailand's most popular melodies.
Tickets cost 500, 1,000, 1,800 and 2,500 baht and can be purchased from salasudasirisobha.com.
