Held in collaboration with Silpakorn University’s Faculty of Music, the concert will see the three Korean-born New Zealand residents performing an eclectic mix, including Mendelssohn’s classic Piano Trio No. 2 In C-Minor, Op 66 among favourite modern compositions such as Ahi by Gareth Farr and Café Music by Paul Schoenfeld.

The trio formed last year as a chamber ensemble at the School of Music, University of Auckland, where they are all students. Pianist Tina Kim is currently studying for her master’s degree with Rae de Lisle, the university’s head of piano. Violinist Stella Kim is an honours student with the eminent Elizabeth Holowell, and Sally Kim is studying cello under the guidance of Edith Salzmann. Although they all share the same surname, only Stella and Sally are siblings.

The group won first prize at the prestigious Pettman/ROSL (Royal Overseas League) chamber music competition and have performed in venues such as St Barnabus Church Ealing, Budleigh Salterton Festival and in the Princess Alexandra Hall. They recently took part in the Lake District Summer Music Festival and Edinburgh International Festival.

After the Bangkok concert, the trio will travel to Phetchaburi to perform at Dusit Thani Hua Hin’s Napalai Ballroom on Sept 5 starting at 6.30pm.

Tickets for the Sept 4 concert cost 500 baht (400 baht for members and 50 baht for students). Contact Siam Society on 02-661-6470—7.

Tickets for the Sept 5 show cost 500 baht for the show only, 1,400 baht including a post-concert Thai buffet dinner, and 1,600 baht including a post-concert Italian four-course set dinner. For reservations, email dthhfb@dusit.com or call 032-442-100.
