Across different levels, in triple rows and playful circles, precious pastilles shape rather simple and subdued designs compared to opulent jewellery usually associated with Van Cleef & Arpels.

Drawing inspiration from its archives, the Paris-based company has reinterpreted the Paillette pattern for the Bouton d'Or collection.

The sequin-like motif initially draped imposing necklaces and bracelets made of yellow gold, which made a splendid return in the mid 1940s after the end of World War II. In addition, the sparkling pastilles adorned tutus of the brand's emblematic ballerina clips.

For the new designs, yellow gold has been combined with deep-black onyx and spring-green chrysoprase, with each material illuminated by a diamond set in the centre. The concave and convex elements are repeated to compose a necklace, a pendant, a subtly asymmetric bracelet, flowing earrings and a three-dimensional ring.

The maison's jewellery expertise ensures the hand-shaping and polishing of the gold pieces, as well as the meticulous assembling of the hundreds of components, up to 1,000 in the case of a necklace, to render suppleness and flexibility.

The mobile lozenges have also been crafted from pink gold, mother-of-pearl and brownish-red carnelian that demonstrate savoir-faire in stone selection, for another harmonious bejewelled composition.
