Yep, we went there, poking fun at the former PM fleeing the country with the title. But in all seriousness now, for those who have been to Chiang Mai and tried ong poo, a local northern delicacy made of crabs found in rice paddies, you may wonder where you can find them in the concrete jungle that is Bangkok.
The very good news is that you don't have to fly from DMK to CNX because co-owners of What a Crab has brought the delicacy to Bangkokians. The food delivery offers several crab-centric dishes, with ong poo being the highlight.
For those who are learning about ong poo for the first time, allow us to tell you that it's basically a mixture of mun poo (the yellow bit found inside a crab shell), egg yolk and other ingredients being slowly grilled in its shell until the paste becomes condensed and creamy.
The six pieces of Ong poo (B150) was so creamy, having the right amount of salty. They were so delish, to the extent that you may want to break the shells open and lick it off clean (like we did). Your fingernails may get yellow-ish too but whatevs. Have your warm sticky rice on standby for dipping. There are also extra packs of chopped chilli and shallots to raise the Scoville scale through the roof (of your mouth).
Spaghetti ong poo with dried chilli (B350) was flavourful and aromatic. On top of delicate crabmeat, you'll also get crab egg, garlic, tomato and a side of lighter ong poo in a shell. However, it was a tad dry and the pasta almost stuck together.
For something fiery, we dare you to try Spicy ong poo salad with rice (B180). Mix the rice, which was aromatic and yellow with the crab paste, along with chopped chilli and shallots so every bite will explode in your mouth.
