The Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra will perform under the baton of conductor Gudni A Emilsson during the "Someone Heard The Shepherd Singing" concert at Mahidol University's Prince Mahidol Hall, Salaya campus, on Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 4pm.

The concert title refers to Beethoven's anguished works as he grappled with the onset of deafness in the first decade of the 19th century. His disability, deafness and struggle to find a unique musical language remain foundational myths in Romantic music.

The programme features his Symphony No.5, in which his musical grief and ultimate victory over suicidal thoughts are fully realised. For music lovers, the performance of this monumental work is a highlight of the concert season.

Opening the concert will be lighter symphonic fare, Mozart's Overture to Cosi Fan Tutte, an opera written shortly before his death.

The repertoire also includes Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No.1, Op 1. The concerto is a solid and individual work full of the artistic and technical innovations that made his name synonymous with the piano during his lifetime.

Joining the TPO as a piano soloist to perform this magnificent work is brilliant young pianist and winner of international competitions San Jittakarn. The Thai native holds a master's degree from the prestigious Juilliard School and is currently enrolled in a postmaster programme at the Yale University School of Music with the Charles Wellington Miles full scholarship and stipend.
