Monsoon Tea launches Biodiversitea to celebrate the diversity of life on the planet

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

The world of tea in Bangkok just got a tad better. Chiang Mai-headquartered Monsoon Tea, whose first teashop was in 101 The Third Place lifestyle complex at BTS Punnawithi, has moved closer to civilisation.

Now located at Young Place on Sukhumvit 23, Monsoon Tea offers more than 50 teas for your drinking and buying pleasure, including two new blends.

Owned by Swedish tea sommelier Kenneth Rimdahl, Monsoon Tea is described as "forest-friendly tea". What this means is that all of the brand's teas are wild and free-grown in the forests of northern Thailand.

The new location is "like a little tea club", says Rimdahl. "We will host tea tasting and talks on sustainability and biodiversity, etc. All while being a cosy place where people can come and relax with a cup of tea or buy their tea.

"I want to create a space where people can drink tea and buy tea, but also learn about other things," he adds. All this will be possible in the near future, with social distancing measures put in place.

A new blend, Biodiversitea celebrates the diversity of life on the planet. It is a delicious green tea flavoured with peach, pandan and chamomile. This blend is born from the collaboration with The Tea Fauna Project, which studies ecosystems around tea plants in northern Thailand to create a more sustainable tea industry.

The other new blend, Rainbow tea was launched in honour of the LGBT community. It is a blend of yellow tea, green tea, blue (oolong) tea, red (black) tea and white tea mixed with natural flavours like mango, passion fruit, papaya and jasmine flowers. "The various teas have been chosen for the colours of the rainbow and the fruity element in the tea is for the people," says Rimdahl, who has been in the "T" business since 1994.
