Rene Gruau's illustration of women with red lips inspired Olivier Echaudemaison to enter the beauty industry. Since 2000, he's been behind the creation of Guerlain's cosmetics and making those red lips come alive on real women.
"The mouth is the strongest part of the face. It reveals the smile. It only takes a moment to put a new lip colour and create a daring look," said Guerlain's creative director.
The French maison invented "Ne M'Oubliez Pas" lipstick in 1870, and his job is to continue the heritage through KissKiss, Rouge G de Guerlain and other lip products. Launched in 2009, the customisable Rouge G de Guerlain is housed in a case with an integrated double mirror, designed by notable jeweller Lorenz Bäumer. The recent launch of gem-inspired cases further makes it a sparkling fashion accessory.
"Thanks to its practicality, modernity, results and sheer beauty as an object, Rouge G de Guerlain has become a must-have for fashion looks," he said. "While its lip colours can be chosen according to the occasion or mood, the case pairs perfectly with jewellery. Whether with an edgy choker, a pair of Plexiglas earrings or some extra-small hoops, it's always the perfect match."
The "Stunning Gems" collection features four faceted cases recalling emerald, ruby, sapphire and tourmaline; and four cases with reflective crystals evoking amethyst, diamond, topaz and quartz.
The case also comes in other designs, such as batik and floral prints, white or gold marble, and in different kinds of leather, to hold the lipstick.
For this collection, Echaudemaison also worked on a new natural sheer formula containing hyaluronic acid spheres, diamond powder, reflective pigments, and medicinal oil from the Guggul tree.
The semi-gloss lip colour comes in seven colours while one satin and six new matte shades have also been added to the Rouge G de Guerlain range.
