Siam Society is holding a half-day trip to visit a special exhibition of Buddha images at the National Museum Bangkok on Saturday.

Held to commemorate the 96th birthday anniversary of the Supreme Patriarch Ariyavongsagatanana, the "Important Buddha Statues In The National Museums" exhibition features 81 magnificent Buddha statues in various positions at the Siwamokhaphiman Hall.

They include old Buddha statues of the first generation of Buddha images found in the Kingdom that came along with trade coming to Southeast Asia, dating from around 800 to 1,700 years ago.

They are displayed alongside ancient Buddha images of different styles from many periods including Dvaravati, Sri Vijaya, Lop Buri, Lanna, Lan Chang, Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin.

The exhibition shows the development of Buddha images in Thailand. They were chosen from national museums across the country, such as Chainatmuni National Museum, Sawankha Woranayok National Museum, and Chiang Saen National Museum. The exhibition will wrap up on Sept 10 and the trip is an opportunity for participants to learn about some of the never-seen-before statues from the museum's collections.

The National Museum Bangkok is located on Na Phra That Road. The tour will start at 9am.

The fee is 2,000 baht (1,500 baht for members). Email studytrips@thesiamsociety.org or call 02-661-6470--3 ext 205.
