Club 21, a multi-label brand store regarded as one of the most fashion-forward style emporiums in Asia, introduces the spring/summer 2015 accessories from some up-and-coming designers — Julie Pasquet of the funky Bijoux de Famille jewellery brand; print designer Lisa King with her "Siam" scarves; playful hair accessories and hat designer Benoit Missolin; luxury footwear creator Joshua Sanders; and avant-garde headwear designer Malakai.
FUNKY TREASURE JEWELLERY
A melting pot of rare and exquisite artefacts, the Bijoux de Famille's "Funky Treasure" collection is a real journey through space and time. The jewellery brand is the brainchild of Parisian designer Julie Pasquet who graduated from the renown Duperré Fashion School in Paris. She cultivated her love of colour, noble materials, and the adornment and body connection with a training in both fashion design and textiles. A year of international travel following her training confirmed what she'd foreseen — her life would be devoted to creating jewellery.
For this collection, Pasquet found herself stumbling upon a treasure while travelling the world. The treasure, abundant and overflowing with sparkling wonders, old and new, are funky in design — a stolen painting, would that be the famous Marilyn by Andy Warhol among the crown jewels; or the precious headpiece of an Indian chief in the blazon's diamonds of the King of American rappers. Rubies, notes and dollars were also discovered in abundance in this collection, accompanied by precious changing feathers, found on rare birds, or even exotic fruits, colourful, crystallised through time. Elements of sacred totem, probably stolen from a distant population, emerge from a flock of coloured beads.
UNIQUE 'SIAM' SILK SCARVES
Lisa King is a London-based print designer. For her collection "Siam", she journeyed back to her native Thailand — drawing inspiration from its colour, craft and diverse culture. By juxtaposing traditionally woven Thai textiles with industrial elements and everyday objects, she has created a collection of unique contemporary prints. This very personal interpretation includes references to metal workshops in Bangkok's Chinatown, street food markets, Siamese fighting fish and Thai sport. To show its versatility, each scarf in this collection has been styled to honour the Eastern heritage of folding cloth into garments.
King creates her prints in her London studio. The silk, cashmere and scarves are printed and hand finished in Britain and Italy.
PLAYFUL HANDCRAFTED HATS
London-based French designer Benoit Missolin's collection provides a brilliant reason to throw a party. The French milliner's playful hair accessories and hats are handcrafted from the most luxurious materials. From lambskin leather bunny ears to gigantic glittery lips atop a headband or veils that evoke fun, they all add a chic sense of fun to any party outfit, making each piece a pleasure not only to wear, but also to behold.
Born in Avignon in 1973, Benoit spent his childhood in Provence, where as a child he created outfits for his Snoopy toy, scribbled designs in the margins of his schoolbooks and just became consumed by the world of design. This surge of creativity was maintained well into his older years when Benoit sent his sketches to all the big fashion houses in Paris. With a response from Christian Lacroix, he began his career in the fashion industry with a couturier. To date Benoit has collaborated with clients such as Anna Sui, Absolute Vodka and photographer Vincent Gapailldard.
LUXURY FOOTWEAR
Emerging footwear brand Joshua Sanders presents its men capsule collection of sneakers that crosses and connects couture to the street, combining Italian luxury with a cosmopolitan view of fashion. The brand is completely made in Italy but the designer gazes at his homeland, the US, for his latest inspiration. The collection is dedicated to his two cities and to his passion for basketball. It combines traditional Italian craftsmanship with urban New York street culture. The collection is made of the classic slip on. The material is leather and the numbers are written with silicon injection technology.
New York-born Joshua Sanders went to Parson's School of Design to learn about fashion. After graduating, he moved to Paris and consulted for many French brands before launching his own "street couture" collection of unique sneakers and baseball caps.
AVANT-GARDE HEADWEAR
Based in Bali, Indonesia, Malakai is a self taught, multidisciplinary artist who has been creating bespoke fashions, jewellery and decor since 1999. Rooted in the San Francisco underground, he began his career as a performance artist, crafting elaborate, avant guard costumes. This expanded into artistic direction, styling, modelling and DJing. "House of Malakai" label was birthed in 2013 as a vehicle to share his diverse vision.
Malakai's influences are culled from high fashion, science, revolutionaries, archaeological digs, and underground movements. Ancient tribal culture weaves seamlessly with cutting edge technology in the hands of this multimedia artist. His collections have hit cult status among fashion forward youth, particularly in London, Tokyo, New York, Paris and Seoul. His creations have a particular attention to detail and handcraft, in combination with modern digital techniques. They have become a favourite of many celebrities including Beyoncé and Rihanna. His "HOM" headwear collection is produced out of his atelier in Bali.
